TOP 6 SALADS IN MACEDONIA (with recipes)

Macedonians loooove salads. We eat salads before lunch every day, at least I do. I can't imagine my lunch without salad. Maybe we like eating salad because it's our excuse to have 1 or 2 shots of rakija BTW :) Anyways, here's my Top 6 salads mostly eaten in Macedonia :)  If you have other favorite Macedonian salads - write down in a comment or pm me.

1. THE FAMOUS SHOPSKA SALAD

I still haven't met a person who doesn't like this salad. The best! It's a combination of chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers (optional) and grated white cheese on top.

2. MIMOSA SALAD

Perfect for spring, especially eaten after Easter because we have many boiled eggs left :) Combination of lettuce, spring onions, radish and eggs.

3. TARATUR

A traditional Macedonian meal, usually served as an appetizer or salad. It generally includes yogurt, fermented milk or sour cream, cucumbers and garlic. I usually prepare it with sour cream.

4. RUSSIAN SALAD

This salad is served and often made for some bigger occasions and holidays. For example, New Year. I can't imagine a New Year's Eve without Russian salad and warm homemade kifli.

This is one of my favorite salads during winter period, the best meze, it goes great as appetizer, before main lunch or with rakija.
