GRANDMA'S PIE WITH APPLES, CINNAMON AND VANILLA

Prepare this delicious mouth melting pie and feel like you're in your grandma's kitchen again. Smells so good and tastes like heaven. Originally it's made only with apples, but since my apples were pretty sweet and more sour apples are better for this pie, I added sour cherries too. This pie is similar to the famous American pie.

Ingredients for filling:
  • 3-4 apples
  • 150 g of sour cherries
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 sachet of vanilla sugar (10 g)
Dough ingredients:
  • 2 eggs
  • 150 g of sugar
  • 1 vanilla sugar (10 g)
  • grated lemon zest
  • 1 baking powder (10 g)
  • 350 g of flour
  • 150 g of lard
Preparation:

  1. Mix nicely eggs and sugar with a mixer, then add the rest of the ingredients for the dough and mix with a wire, in the end, knead it slightly with your hand and place it in the refrigerator for 40 minutes.
  2. In the meantime, prepare the filling: cut the apples into small pieces and put them together with the sour cherries to fry in a pan until they have evaporated the water. I used the apples and sour cherries from the compote which I previously made. Add sugar, vanilla sugar and cinnamon and mix.
  3. Prepare the baking pan: cover it with thin layer of butter and sprinkle flour.
  4. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and split it into two parts.
  5. Spread one part in the pan with your hands and while doing this, place the other dough in the fridge.
  6. Apply the filling over the dough, and spread the second part of the dough onto a floured surface and cut it into strips. Slowly order stripe by stripe as in the picture. Add one pack of vanilla sugar (10 g) to the top and put it to bake.
  7. Bake in a heated oven at 160 C degrees for about an hour. I have a strong oven and I baked it covered with baking paper for about 40 minutes and 20 minutes uncovered.
