Wonderful and quick minced meat pie with puff pastry. If you ever crave for zelnik, maznik or burek, this can be the best substitute. Just delicious! Let's be honest that you can't really prepare this dough at home as it is from the store. Even if you can, it's a long process. Puff pastry is made out of very thin dough layers coated with margarine or other fat (I don't believe they put butter) and all layers are arranged one on another. However, it's ok to use it from time to time.
Ingredients:
- 1 pack puff pastry (500 g or 18 oz)
- 250 g mixed minced meat (9 oz)
- 1 small head of onions
- 1/2 tbs vegeta
- black pepper
- 1 egg yolk for coating
Preparation:
- If your puff pastry is frozen, leave to defrost, but not completely. It should still be cold.
- Prepare the minced meat filling. Fry chopped onion on some oil for several minutes, add the minced meat and fry until it gets light brown colour. Season with salt or vegetable seasoning (vegeta) and black pepper.
- Spread the puff pastry into a rectangular shape and divide it into two parts.
- Put minced meat on the middle part, cut the dough as in the pictures and fold it.
- First fold the top and the bottom, then the sides, one stripe from the left, one from the right until you fold them all.
- Make a small ball pie from the cut off dough.
- Coat the resulting pies with egg yolk and put to bake at maximum temperature for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly after baking, then enjoy your delicious pie!
