Bayadera is the queen of unbaked cakes, it is irreplaceable and an indispensable part of our Christmas table. The recipe is from my mother and since I was a child we've been making the same one and haven't changed it, the taste is perfect. Bayadera is consisted of 2 parts: light and dark and topped with chocolate. It has a recognizable look and it's very famous treat all across the Balkan countries.
Ingredients:
- 300 g of sugar (10.5 oz)
- 250 ml of water (1 cup)
- 200 g of butter (7 oz)
- 300 g ground walnut (10,5 oz)
- 300 g ground biscuits (10,5 oz)
- 150 g of dark chocolate (5,3 oz)
Preparation:
- Put sugar, water and butter in a pot to boil.
- After boiling and the ingredients have melted, let the liquid cool a little and add the ground nuts and biscuits. Mix well and immediately divide the mixture in half.
- Add half of the chocolate (melt it) to one half and mix well. Leave both parts to cool until lukewarm.
- Then, put the dark part in a rectangular pan 20 by 30 cm and spread it nicely. The light part is applied above the dark part. Spread it nice and smoothly.
- Add the remaining chocolate previously melted on a steam. Apply it evenly on top.
- Leave the cake to cool, cover with foil and set in the refrigerator.
- The next day, cut into rectangles and serve.
Cheers.
