ST.NAUM MONASTERY

The Monastery of Saint Naum is a significant religious and historical site located in Macedonia, near the town of Ohrid.

The monastery is situated on the southern shore of Lake Ohrid, close to the Albanian border. It's about 30 kilometers from the town of Ohrid.

The photo represents the monastery and one of the characteristic peacocks which can be seen in the yard around the church everyday.

The monastery was founded in 905 AD by St. Naum, a disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius, who were instrumental in the spread of Christianity among the Slavic peoples.

The complex includes a church dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, which features frescoes and icons dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. The architecture is a blend of Byzantine and Slavic influences.

St. Naum is buried in the monastery, and his tomb is a place of pilgrimage. It is said that if you place your ear on his tomb, you can hear the saint's heartbeat.

The monastery is set in a picturesque area with beautiful gardens and views of Lake Ohrid. The surrounding region is known for its natural beauty and tranquility.

The monastery is an important cultural and religious site for the Macedonian Orthodox Church and attracts visitors and pilgrims from around the world.
